Our speakers bureau offers a variety of educational and informational programs on topics such as Hospice Care, Grief, and "hot topics" such as Advanced Planning, Alzheimer's Disease / Dementia, and more. Hospice Overview

Hospice Overview explores the foundational principles and philosophy of care and acknowledges the pioneers who laid the ground work for the modern hospice movement in the United States. It looks at how the Interdisciplinary Team and care partners collaborate to support patient and family goals and reviews basic symptom management at end-of-life.

Hospice 101: Orientation for Facilities

A 30-minute training session created especially for staff caring for patients at facilities. This education provides the basics in end-of-life care and considerations. Teaching binder, testing, and evaluation materials are provided free of charge as part of this training.

Cultural Diversity

This training provides a framework for gaining an awareness, acceptance and appreciation for the variation in culture in the home setting of residents/patients. Tangible steps toward the development of cultural competency are discussed.

Veteran Specific Education: Service Related Clinical Issues

An overview of the various military eras along with service related diseases, illnesses and conditions that may impact Veterans at end-of-life, from both clinical and benefits perspectives. The content will increase understanding of the importance and implications of asking Veterans about their military background. The purpose of this program is to heighten awareness of Veteran-specific concerns.

Good Grief

An overview of bereavement and the professional caregiver, focusing on theories of grief & bereavement and how grief impacts our lives. “Good Grief” explores various ways that we grieve and how we can help those who are grieving.

Boundaries and Ethics

This training is geared toward reminding and reinforcing the importance of ongoing evaluation of professional boundaries with clients. Potential warning signs of boundary conflicts discussed, as is encouragement to seek guidance in addressing any conflicts or violations.

Witnessing Caregiver Misconduct

There has been a great deal of attention paid to caregiver misconduct, both in the home and at facilities. This training focuses on an aspect often not considered: the bystander in situations of caregiver misconduct. This nonjudgmental and supportive training reviews what constitutes caregiver misconduct, reasons for not reporting
and encouragement to act on one’s professional responsibilities, even if uncomfortable.

Resident Rights: What caregivers need to know

This presentation discusses the basic rights that are afforded residents of facilities and institutions. Situations of potential violations of patient rights are discussed, and options for those who witness violations of a patient’s rights.

Navigating Difficult Conversations Successfully

Attendees will learn what defines a “difficult conversation” and the reasons for having one. The presentation will discuss the steps needed to conduct a successful “difficult conversation” including a multilevel understanding of the person(s) participating as well as the psychological and logistical preparation for the facilitator.

Pain Recognition and Management

Created for professional caregivers, review the types of pain, truths/myths about pain, pain assessment techniques, medications and the WHO ladder, as well as non-pharmacological interventions.

Aromatherapy Uses at End of Life

This course will introduce some of the valuable uses for aromatherapy during the last days of life. Includes information on essentials oils for symptom management and how they work.

When is it time to ask for hospice services

This presentation was created to provide information, and stimulate discussion,
among loved ones of persons considering hospice care instead of curative care
options. Defining hospice as a philosophy, possible indicators for hospice care
appropriateness, both for the patient as well as the caregivers are examined. Roles of care team members, as well as information about payment for hospice services discussed.
